Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma (top photo, left) receives the local officials of the province of Batanes led by Gov. Marilou Cayco (bottom photo, 5th from right) in his office in Intramuros, Manila. Batanes is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the country. Given the continuous economic impact of the pandemic, Governor Cayco sought the assistance of the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) in providing economic relief to a number of displaced workers through the department’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (Tupad) Program. On the part of DoLE, Secretary Laguesma said the department is committed to reaching out to the needy workers, especially those with limited knowledge and access to DoLE and in the far urban areas. Laguesma is joined by Workers Welfare and Protection Cluster Undersecretary Benjo Santos Benavidez and Financial and Management Service Director Warren Miclat. PHOTO BY ALEJANDRO ECHAVEZ/DOLE-IPS
