MRT-3 privatization eyed

(UPDATE) THE Department of Transportation (DoTr) is seriously considering privatizing the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) in a bid to improve its operational efficiency.

'We are looking at partnering with private rail operators for DoTr MRT-3's operations and maintenance under the same scheme with LRT-1 (Light Rail Transit Line 1) with the rail lines assets remaining government-owned,' DoTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said in a statement on Wednesday.
