Neither Great Men nor Great Helmsmen

DONALD Trump set up to fashion America, the wealthiest nation on Earth and the mightiest military power, like Orban's Hungary, a conservative country that bended to his whims. Trump ruled in the style of a supremo, the leader of a one-party state where every government functionary was to do his bidding, with every state resource at his disposal. And with private business obliged to fatten up Trump Organization and his related private enterprises through deals shady or otherwise (get overbilled by my hotels — his hotels overcharged the Secret Service agents protecting him — splurge on my golf courses). Trump has been described as a born grifter, given that one rare chance of becoming president of the world's wealthiest economy and military power. His lust for what can be had as a US leader blurred and crossed all ethical lines during his ill-fated presidency.
