Face-to-face with anti-Asian hate in New York

NEW YORK: 'Go to hell! You f***ing monkeys!' A woman, a white American, hurled the racial slur at us while we were in a subway station here.

Anti-Asian hate is real. We — a group of Filipino journalists who visited Washington D.C. and New York on a reporting tour — experienced it first hand on Wednesday afternoon (Thursday in Manila), two days after we interviewed two Filipino-Americans who were themselves victims of hate crime toward Asians or Asian-Americans.
