RECOGNIZING the enormity of the problem in the conduct of pre-demolition conferences (PDCs) that convene all stakeholders in resolving the issue of informal settlers living in private or government owned land, Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) Chairman and CEO Undersecretary Elpidio Jordan Jr. is urging unity and stronger coordination among government agencies in properly handling the growing concern over the plight of the country's urban poor.Speaking at the final day of the PCUP-hosted conference on 'Just and Humane Demolition and Eviction' held at the Oracle Hotel and Residences in Loyola Heights, Quezon City, the undersecretary admitted that the issues on PDCs can only be resolved if all those who are concerned join hands and face the problem squarely.During the two-day conference, stakeholders were able to air the obstacles they encounter with regards to addressing the problem of informal settlers. They likewise identified the factors that have rendered the process inutile in certain aspects.In this regard, Jordan disclosed his plans to push for the establishment of satellite offices that would move the PCUP closer and more accessible to the people, particularly the marginalized sectors and underprivileged families.He underscored PCUP's readiness to serve the Filipino people through the fusion of talents under a leadership of unity and equity.
