University rankings still a gamble

DO Philippine universities have to go all-in in global university rankings?

The recent outcome of the Times Higher Education's World University Rankings (THE-WUR) for 2023 has caused a stir in the academe, at least in the Philippines. Some were surprised; some, dismayed. Some usual suspects did not figure on this year's list as newcomers barged into top of the lists, both locally and internationally. In the Philippines, this is probably a welcome development. It shows more institutions are ready to play this global game.
