Johnson eyes return as Sunak rises

LONDON: British politician Rishi Sunak on Friday night reached the minimum threshold to run for the leadership of the ruling Conservative Party as former prime minister Boris Johnson aimed for an audacious comeback.

Cabinet member Penny Mordaunt became the first to formally declare her candidacy after the Conservatives were forced into a second leadership contest following the dramatic resignation of Prime Minister Liz Truss.
