THE Supreme Court gave the Commission on Elections (Comelec) 15 days to identify a "reasonable period" during which the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) can be successfully carried out.
"The Comelec has persistently maintained that it is not really possible to push through with the scheduled [BSKE] elections in December [2022] so that even if we issue a directive to your office to do so maybe it will not be exactly on December but in a reasonable period, what do you think will be the reasonable period. Otherwise it's pointless for us to be going through all this process if you will not be able to comply," Associate Justice Ricardo R. Rosario told Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia during the oral arguments on the petition challenging the recently enacted law postponing the conduct of the BSKE to October 2023 from December 2022.
