How SIM Card Registration Act can revolutionize government transactions

ON Oct. 10, 2022, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' R. Marcos Jr. signed into law Republic Act 11934, or the 'Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card Registration Act.' This became the first law that President Marcos signed since becoming the country's chief executive.

Under RA 11934, telco companies and direct sellers will require valid identification documents before selling SIM cards. Those who already have SIM cards must register with their respective telcos within a certain time frame, otherwise, their SIM cards will be deactivated. Subscriber SIM cards must be kept on file by telecommunications companies. A list of authorized dealers and agents nationwide must be submitted quarterly to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) by companies.
