Covid vax drive for students in Davao City intensifies ahead of in-person classes

THE Davao City government in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) has beefed up its vaccination drive for students against Covid-19 before all public schools return to full face-to-face classes on November 2. City's Covid-19 Task Force spokesman Dr. Michelle Schlosser said their goal is to inoculate 100 percent of the city's student population before they return to full face-to-face classes. Schlosser said the CHEd, DepEd, and officials from schools with Covid cases had been committed to conducting a series of school-based vaccinations with an intensified information education campaign to prevent the spread of infection. The education sector's vaccination campaign will focus on reaching children ages 5 to 11 as a significant portion of this age group remains unvaccinated. The campaign will cover 'vaccination safety, efficacy and benefits,' as well as the management protocols for Covid-19 cases if one is detected in the school setting. The city has recorded 10 Covid-19-related deaths from October 2 to 8 of which six were unvaccinated cases.
