POPE Francis canonized the "father of migrants," John Baptist Scalabrini (1839-1905), on Sunday, October 9, at St. Peter's Square.
In 1905, a few months before his death, St. Scalabrini proposed the creation of a Central Commission for all migrants, which is considered the precursor of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Travelers created in 1907.
