THE Mindanao State University (MSU) System Educators from different fields of discipline attended the 1st National Peace Education Summit (NPES) at the Apo View Hotel, Davao City, recently. The NPES was organized by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, in coordination with the Commission on Higher Education, Department of Education, and Director Ed Acram Latip of the MSU Institute of Peace and Development in Mindanao, top officials said. During the opening program of the summit, Presidential Peace Adviser Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. emphasized the importance of peace education in the country. He enlightened the participants about Executive Order 570 which calls for the institutionalization of peace education in schools and universities. This was also spelled out in the priority agenda of MSU System President Basari Mapupuno, for making the MSU as a center of peace, Galvez said. Earlier, Mapupuno and Selva Ramachandran of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), represented by Winston Aylmer Camarinas, head of UNDP Cotabato Field Office, signed a memorandum of understanding that targets to contribute to the MSU's efforts towards becoming the national peace university. Participants in the NPES representing MSU are Dr. Samuel Anonas, Prof. Aldean Alonto, Prof. Raihan Yusoph, Prof. Harvey Niere, and virtual participants Dr. Tirmzy Abdullah, Prof. Cora Mangelen, Director Aliah Cali-Pascan, and Moh'd Camal Sharief.
