Conservists gather for UN waterbird conference in Budapest

THE Eighth Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (AEWA MOP8) opened in Budapest, Hungary on Thursday, September 27.

AEWA MOP8 was an important policymaking forum ahead of a series of biodiversity-related meetings in the coming months, culminating with the UN Biodiversity Conference (CBD COP15) co-hosted by China and Canada at the end of the year.

The African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement protects 255 species of waterbirds including pelicans, cranes, storks and ducks. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO
