THE Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) plunged by 193.18 points, or 3.26 percent, to close near the 5,700 level or at 5,741.07 on Friday.

"Philippine shares continued to be sold off amid growing recession fears as the US treasury yields continue to rise with the Federal Reserve maintaining its hawkish stance," Claire Alviar, research associate at Philstocks Financial Inc., said.
