WASHINGTON, D.C.: A former security chief at Twitter was to appear before the United States Congress on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila) with alarming allegations that the social media platform misled regulators about its cyberdefenses and efforts to control millions of fake accounts.
Peiter "Mudge" Zatko, a respected cybersecurity expert, will appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee to lay out his concerns. His claims could also affect Tesla Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk's attempt to back out of his $44-billion deal to acquire the microblogging site. The billionaire claims that Twitter has long underreported spam bots on its platform and cites that as a reason to nix the deal he struck in April.
