CURRENT events being what they are, I suppose it is obligatory to respectfully acknowledge the passing of Queen Elizabeth 2nd, who died on Thursday at the age of 96. Obviously, the death of the longest-reigning monarch in UK history is significant, but my impressions are, dare I say, a bit more down-to-earth. I always thought I would enjoy meeting her; she seemed like a nice lady with a sense of humor. Thanks to her service in World War 2, she was a trained diesel mechanic and driver, and mechanics and drivers are my kind of people.
As far as any deeper analysis, however, I subscribe to the views of entrepreneur and environmentalist Paul Ford, who made the following observation on Twitter after the news broke.
