CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Two members of the New People's Army (NPA) operating in Bukidnon surrendered on Saturday, September 3, to the local police hours after the son of George Madlos, the slain commander of NPA national command, was killed in a firefight with state forces in Impasugong, Bukidnon.Maj. Ivan Viñas, spokesman of the Cagayan de Oro police, said Tuesday that John Rey Pilong, alias 'Ka Kans,' of the Sub-Regional Command 2, Guerilla Force 6 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee, and Oscar Balabag, alias 'Ka Jag,' NPA liaison officer for the Militia ng Bayan, voluntarily surrendered to the Cagayan de Oro City police. He said that Pilong and Balabag, both residents of the hinterland villages of San Fernando, also turned over two shotguns when they surrendered in Km. 18 Besigan, an outskirt village of Cagayan de Oro City Saturday afternoon. Viñas said the NPA rebels surrendered just an hour after Vincent Isagani Madlos, head of the National Technical Bureau of the NPA's National Operation Command, was killed along with his wife Angie Salinas, secretary of the NPA's National Information and Communication Bureau, in a firefight with state forces in Impasugong, Bukidnon. Pilong and Balabag were turned over to the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office for proper disposition, Viñas said.
