IN this column, I would like to share the findings of a recent national survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) and the team of Mike Entoma, SWS senior survey specialist. Conducted from April 19 to 27, 2022 and involving 1,440 respondents, the survey covered bicycle usage and ownership, and the attitudes of Filipinos toward bicycles as transport.
Before getting into the details, I would like to commend the SWS for choosing a timely and relevant subject. Bicycles have been largely invisible to transportation planners and government officials. Although many believed that cycling was growing in popularity, there was hardly any data to measure the extent of bicycle ownership and use. SWS surveys from 2020 have filled the large gap and provided solid material for policy and planning.
