Arson, bombings hit southern Thailand

HAT YAI, Thailand: A wave of arson and bombing attacks have struck Thailand's southernmost provinces, which have been the setting of an active Muslim separatist insurgency for almost two decades, officials said on Wednesday.

At least 17 attacks occurred on Tuesday night in Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala, mostly at convenience stores and gasoline stations, military spokesman Pramote Promin said. Three civilians were reported injured. No one has claimed responsibility so far.
