THE other day, I came across a social media post of former senator Juan Ponce Enrile posing a question as to how do we position ourselves in the brewing China-Taiwan tension. While many, including some of my friends, responded by saying we stay neutral, I really would want to disagree as it is my firm belief that staying neutral in a situation like this would only embolden an irresponsible leader like US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to commit the same offense in the future even if it brings us to the brink of another world war.

There are 183 countries out of the 193 member countries of the United Nations which signed the resolution in 1970 which gave recognition to the 'One China' policy, acknowledging the People's Republic of China's right to a seat in the UN body. And that includes the United States.
