SEOUL: After infuriating China over her trip to Taiwan, United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met South Korea's political leaders in the capital Seoul on Thursday but avoided making direct public comments on cross-Strait relations that could have further increased regional tensions.
Pelosi, the first incumbent speaker to visit Taiwan in 25 years, said in Taipei on Wednesday that the American commitment to democracy on the self-governing island and elsewhere "remains ironclad."
