LUCBAN, Quezon: A local advocate has proposed to change the name of Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) to Lucban State University through a municipal ordinance. Hobart Dator Jr. filed a request to the members of the municipal council late last year 'to pass an ordinance renaming Southern Luzon State University to Lucban State University' as a tribute to the sacrifices of the past leaders who made an effort to institute the university. He cited as an example other state universities like Bulacan State University and Batangas State University who managed to retain their name in their state colleges. 'Today, when you mentioned SLSU, you wouldn't know it's located in Lucban,' Dator explained, adding it's only rightful for their town to claim credit for this institution's history. Presently, the municipal council advised Dator to refile his request/petition to make it updated for the newly installed members of the municipal council. Dator previously advocated the successful move of the provincial buses from inside the city proper of Lucena into a common terminal as well as the protection of Mount Banahaw from disadvantageous government projects and the 'No to Hati-Quezon' several years ago that aimed to divide the province into two provinces, Quezon del Norte and Quezon del Sur.
