Even before the word was a catchphrase, I was already a 'freelancer.' Always on the go and rarely able to relax, I was always looking for ways to maximize my time and the best way for me to do so was through odd jobs here and there. I stayed committed to my freelancing career through the many seasons of life and wasn't at all surprised when the 'gig' economy slowly gained traction. Without realizing it, my years of freelancing was actually shaping me for the next chapter of my life: building a technology platform that would be a place where both freelancers and clients from varied backgrounds could thrive.
When I first came across army8, a digital agency based in Boston, I did so as a freelancer. I had a set of hours that I needed to fulfill as a content writer and soon enough, I was a full time employee and not long after that, a partner. One of my responsibilities was to find talent in various industries that would fulfill the needs of our clients. Part of my day consisted of finding talent from one website to the next and while a lot of them had brimming portfolios and interviewed great, the work did not match our expectations. This task was not limited to me but our entire team and it was our own personal experiences in finding the right talent that inspired HireBu, a technology platform that brings pre-vetted talent to the clients who need them.
