Lawmakers propose Media Workers' Welfare Act

LAWMAKERS from Camarines Sur urged the 19th Congress to provide media workers with job-related benefits, including the security of tenure, hazard and overtime pay, additional insurance, and other benefits that are available to regular employees in the public and private sectors.

In House Bill (HB) 304, Camarines Sur Representatives Luis Raymund 'LRay' Villafuerte, Miguel Luis Villafuerte and Tsuyoshi Anthony Horibata, and Bicol Saro Rep. Nicolas Enciso 3rd filed the Media Workers' Welfare Act. The bill aims to guarantee media workers' rights to self-organization and other financial benefits, as well as establish 'a secure, protected environment conducive to their creative, free and fruitful work.'
