Sri Lanka's acting president declares emergency

COLOMBO: Acting Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe declared a state of emergency on Monday, a move that gave him broad authority amid growing protests demanding his resignation two days before the South Asian country's lawmakers are set to elect a new president.
