DUE to a rising public outcry against the unauthorized use of blinkers and emergency sirens, Police Regional Office-12 (PRO-12) Director BGen. Alexander Tagum has vowed to step up their campaign against civilian vehicles mounted with wang-wang (sirens). Pursuant to the mandate of the PNP Officer in Charge LtGen. Vicente Danao Jr., Tagum has ordered the Highway Patrol Group to intensify its drive against unauthorized use of blinkers and emergency sirens in Region 12 (Soccsksargen). Under the law, the use of emergency devices is exclusive to motor vehicles designated for official use by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, National Bureau of Investigation, Land Transportation Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, and hospital ambulances. Moreover, Presidential Decree 96 prohibits the use of sirens, bells, as well as dome lights, and other signaling devices that emit disruptive sounds and blinding lights.
