Deadly starfish invades Sarangani

A POSSIBLE outbreak of the crown-of-thorns starfish poses a threat to the livelihood of fishermen in Sarangani, an official at the Protected Area Management Office of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SBPS) said on June 15.

Cirilo Lagnason Jr., SBPS deputy protected area superintendent, said there has been a noticeable increase in the number of these starfish species in the towns of Glan, Maasim and Kiamba.

Members of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape remove the crown-of-thorns starfish species on June 6, 2022, as these could destroy the coral reefs. The SBPS is appealing for help. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO
