DoF: No double taxation in power rates

THERE is no double taxation in the imposition of value-added taxes (VAT) in the power sector, the Department of Finance (DoF) said on Thursday in response to recent statements by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) chief.

'Because the Epira (Electric Power Industry Reform Act) law has unbundled the pricing at each stage of electricity production, the VAT is imposed separately in each stage of the production,' Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez 3rd said in a statement.
