It would be 'risky' for local government units to enforce the lifting of mask mandates against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) especially that there are reported case increases in select parts of the country, according to a top official of the Department of Health.

Health Undesecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, in an interview on the ABS-CBN News Channel on Wednesday, added that legitimizing mask mandates will also cause continuous transmissions of the virus especially with the presence of highly-infectious subvariants of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
