THE approved P1 jeepney fare hike in Metro Manila and other regions in Luzon, banking giant HSBC said, is clear evidence of second-round effects of rising fuel prices, and it could stoke inflation rates in the future.
The now P10 minimum jeepney fare in Metro Manila, Central Luzon (Region 3), Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and Mimaropa (Mindoro Occidental and Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) is a big risk to the consumer price index that eventually materialized, HSBC economist Aris Dacanay emphasized in a commentary released on Friday.
