THE country's trade deficit widened in April from a year ago, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Thursday, with imports again outpacing exports amid global supply disruptions.

The April shortfall, at $4.77 billion, fell from March's $5 billion but was substantially higher than the $3 billion recorded a year earlier. Year on year, imports went up by 22.8 percent to $10.9 billion while exports climbed by 6.0 percent to $6.13 billion.
