CAUAYAN CITY: A 61-year-old village chief and his two sons were arrested in their homes after yielding a cache of firearms during a raid in Purok 4, Barangay Buyon in this city, last week, police said. Buyon village chief Jessie Eder Sr., 61, and his sons Jessie Jr., 33, and Rojie Eder, 39, were arrested through a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Reymundo Aumentado of Regional Trial Court Branch 20, LtCol. Sherwin Cuntapay, Cauayan City police chief, said. Seized were three calibers.45 handguns with four magazines, an improvised caliber.22 pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, a caliber.38 revolver, two improvised shotguns, two sling bags, four 12-gauge bullets, an empty magazine of M-16 Armalite rifle, a grenade launcher, a hand grenade, a black holster, 17 caliber.45 bullets, 10 caliber.38 revolver bullets, four 12-gauge shotgun bullets, a caliber.38 bullet, and 35 M-14 rifle bullets. Cuntapay said they would file illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives against the Eders. The police chief said they would also look into the possibility that the Eders are linked in the killing of driver Ernesto Butac Jr., 44, who has publicly aired plans to run for village chief in Buyon village. Aside from the Cauayan City police, the raiding team also included the Isabela Police Provincial Intelligence Unit, Provincial Intelligence, and Detective Management Unit, Second Provincial Mobile Force Company, RSCG, and Regional Intelligence Unit 2. The arrested men have been under police custody.
