US senator visits Taiwan as China ups army threat

TAIPEI: A United States lawmaker reiterated support for Taiwan during a visit to the East Asian island on Tuesday, less than a day after Taipei said more than two dozen Chinese jets flew into its air defense zone, its second-largest incursion this year.

During a meeting with Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen, Sen. Tammy Duckworth put focus on the close economic, political and security relations between Taipei and Washington.
