China manufacturing activity better in May

BEIJING: China's manufacturing sector improved in May as more factories resumed production after the Omicron variant-fueled coronavirus outbreaks that plagued the East Asian country longer than expected was brought under control.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Tuesday that China's purchasing managers' index (PMI) — a key indicator of manufacturing activity — climbed to 49.6 last month from 47.4 in April.
