REYNOSA, Mexico: Asylum seekers in the dusty, violence-plagued Mexican border city of Reynosa were back to playing an uncertain waiting game on Saturday (Sunday in Manila), their dreams of entering the United States frustrated anew by a health rule imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
"They say they're going to open the border today. Do you think that's true?" asked Michelle, a 26-year-old Haitian, who had come to the pedestrian bridge crossing the Rio Grande hoping for good news.
