If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere, crooned Frank Sinatra. The song was a tribute to New York City and the Big Apple's legendary attributes — exceptionalism and cosmopolitanism. We can add another layer: multiculturalism and its first cousin, diversity. To many, it is the center of the universe. People from across the world who have come to New York City to make their fortunes or lift their lives, or simply to bask in what the city has to offer, now make up a substantial percentage of its demographics. Close to 40 percent of the New York City workforce came from or were born elsewhere. It is this precise kind of environment, a global melting pot both fit for those seeking a different way of life and/or personal success that makes New York attractive to diverse cohorts of Filipino immigrants.
