OUR long national nightmare will soon be over. By that I mean the presidential campaign and all the over-the-top exhortations on TV, newspapers, social media, posters and personally for or against various candidates at many levels but mostly for president. Now, will the election lead to a different nightmare or a dream come true? I hope things get better but as Clarence Darrow said, "Blessed are the pessimists for they shall not be disappointed."
I obviously couldn't write an article about anything except the election. I take solace that others have also observed how exceptionally puerile this campaign has been in tone and content. Many act like this is a beauty contest without the beauty and even perhaps the contest! All handicapping and positioning over people and the positions they are running for sans issues or substance. That is true of every campaign, but at least in my adult life I have not seen a Philippine campaign as devoid of substance as this one. Or ridiculous columns stating the obvious and nothing more. Like to win, you need to get out the vote. Such nuclear bombs of political wisdom!
