Ukraine's EU membership questionnaire submitted to envoy

KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy handed over on Monday a questionnaire aimed at securing a European Union (EU) candidate status for his country to the bloc's Ukraine envoy Matti Maasikas. 'Today is one of the stages for our country in joining the EU, the aspiration that our people are striving for and fighting for,' Zelenskyy said at the handover ceremony in Kyiv. He added that Ukrainians were united in the goal to become part of the EU, noting that its prompt provision of the questionnaire to Ukraine was an important signal to Kyiv. For his part, Maasikas said that Ukraine's answers to the questionnaire would be analyzed 'very quickly.' The ceremony came nearly two weeks after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen handed the questionnaire to Zelenskyy during her visit to the Ukrainian capital.
