WITH the NBA now gearing up for the playoffs, it is time to hand out the major individual awards to deserving players. The NBA has a ton of talent and their rabid fan bases are lobbying on social media that their guy deserves the award. Here are my predictions for each major NBA award:
1) Most Valuable Player (MVP). The most coveted individual award currently has three names vying for it. These are reigning MVP Nikola Jokic (Denver), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia) and two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee). Embiid has strengthened his case by becoming the first center to win the scoring title since 2000. He is a better all-around athlete and defender than Jokic, but I still pick the latter based on his stats. Jokic leads his team in scoring (27.1), rebounds (13.8), assists (7.9), steals (1.5) and blocked shots (0.9) and field goal percentage (58.3%). Jokic will win by a hair over Embiid.
