Partisan politics and the death of critical thinking

WHEN I decided to support President Rodrigo Duterte, I was treated like a pariah by my colleagues in academe. A senior colleague even asked what happened to me. A close friend intimated that the disapproval stemmed from the feeling by many that I abandoned any semblance of critical thinking, an attribute academics hold dearly and painstakingly impart to our students.
