(UPDATE) PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has repeatedly said that he is not supporting any presidential candidate but on Tuesday, he admitted that he may endorse one to prevent the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) from gaining a foothold in government.

In his speech during the joint National Task Force-Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-RTF Elcac) meeting in Butuan City, Duterte warned it would be "dangerous" if the candidates for the May 9 elections who are in alliance with the communist movement get elected.
