THE Philippines has placed a temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds from five US states confirming an outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus in their areas.
Based on its Memorandum Order 29, Series of 2022, the Department of Agriculture (DA) cited a report from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), United States of America to the World Organization for Animal Health and USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service that Missouri, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa were positive on the occurrence of HPAI, a virus that occurs mainly in birds that can be deadly, especially in domestic poultry.
