NOTWITHSTANDING the impact of US sanctions on Huawei, the China-based tech giant's research and development (R&D) expenditure hit a new high in 2021, reaching CNY142.7 billion ($22.4 billion), which represented 22.4 percent of its total revenue.
Ranked No. 2 in the EU industrial R&D investment scoreboard, 54.8 percent of Huawei staff now work in R&D. As per Huawei's 2021 Annual Report released on March 28th, the company's total R&D expenditure over the past 10 years reached over CNY845 billion ($133 billion).
