Half of Shanghai put under lockdown

SHANGHAI: Millions of people in Shanghai were confined to their homes on Monday as the eastern half of China's financial hub went under lockdown to curb the East Asian country's biggest ongoing Covid-19 outbreak.

The move, announced on Sunday night, caused a run to grocery stores by residents who have become increasingly exasperated with the authorities' inability to snuff out the outbreak despite nearly three weeks of increasingly disruptive measures.
