How the letter 'F' brought excitement to the Lexus brand

THE year 2010 was a special one for the Lexus brand. It was an era when Japanese automakers were mostly churning out sensible and reliable cars. It was a stark contrast from the 1980s and 1990s when cars such as the Mitsubishi GTO, Toyota Supra, Nissan Skyline GT-R, Mazda RX-7 and Honda NSX graced our roads. Sure, there were cars like the Nissan GT-R (R35), Honda Civic Type R (FD2), but none were at the level of rarity and exclusivity to what the Europeans were crafting.

Enter the Lexus LFA — a supercar that at its time was a showcase of technological prowess for Japan. It was also proof that Japan could create something as exclusive as what the Europeans could develop. The LFA's howling 4.8-liter V10 is still arguably the best-sounding engine to this day, and the level of craftsmanship it achieved with its carbon fiber body was unparalleled during its time. Just how good is the Lexus LFA? Even in 2019, several years after making its debut, the Lexus LFA is still the best car that Jeremy Clarkson has ever driven. Enough said.
