ZAMBOANGA CITY: At least 69 communist and Muslim rebels surrendered to the military in the southern Philippine province of Maguindanao, where security forces are fighting to win hearts and minds in the restive region, officials announced Sunday.
Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, commander of the 6th Infantry Division (6ID) and the Joint Task Force Central (Mindanao), said at least 30 New People's Army rebels have yielded on Friday and surrendered their weapons.
