(UPDATE) THE humanitarian and social advocacy arm of the Catholic Church in the Philippines is appealing for P400 million to fund its recovery program for thousands of families affected by Typhoon "Odette" (international name: "Rai") that hit the southern portion of the country in December last year.

Caritas Philippines estimates that 11,000 poor families need help to recover and rebuild their lives following the devastation wrought by the typhoon.
