PH debt hits P12-T mark at end-Jan

THE national government debt has surpassed the P12-trillion mark at the start of the year as domestic and external debt ballooned, numbers provided by the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) on Friday showed.

The P12.03-trillion outstanding debt at the end of January 2022 was up 2.6 percent, or P301.12 billion, from the end of December 2021's P11.72 trillion, the BTr noted in a statement, 'due to the net availment of both domestic and external debt.'
