UKRAINE is a tragedy. I was surprised by the number of columnists in Philippine papers, especially this one, who wrote about it and quite eloquently and insightfully at that. I wasn't going to write about Ukraine as I felt I had nothing to add. I was asked about it last Wednesday when Mimi Ong kindly interviewed me on ANC Market Edge and in response brought up what Yuval Noah Harari wrote "By Invitation" in The Economist on February 10 just before the invasion began. He brought up a very important point that I think is worth repeating. I would normally just direct readers to it, but it is behind a paywall. Still, not being "Cut and Paste," let me merely summarize (rather than lift) why he views this war as extremely important and history-changing.

Here is the subtitle and opening — "Humanity's greatest political achievement has been the decline of war. That is now in jeopardy."
