Israel's ex-police chief denies hacking charges

JERUSALEM: Israel's former police chief denied on Wednesday media allegations that the police illegally used spyware to hack the phones of high-profile officials and citizens.

In a video statement released to the media, Roni Alsheikh, who was the commissioner of the Israeli police during the alleged phone hackings, dismissed reports that accused the police of using the sophisticated Pegasus spyware to hack into the mobile phones of ministry directors, mayors and activists.
